Normally Djs, Rappers, Producers work off a 4 beats count, 8, 16 or 32. Djs normally like the 32 beat for the break or chorus.
Last Saturday I went to celebrate a birthday at Vlounge, the Dj there was terrible in terms of fundamentals. Her mixing was terrible, she would mix songs that the beat would not match each other. She blended a 98 bpm( beat per minute) song to a 115 bpm song. She also did not have any flare of her own. She was below avg to me as a DJ. I was watching her and listening to her. Just another observation and I also catch myself doing this also, I look at my computer screen too often and don't look at the crowd. As a dj you need to recognize what the crowd likes and dislikes because the Djs number 1 priority is to "rock" the crowd.
This is a reminder to myself that I need to work on looking at the crowd and listen to mixing instead of looking at the computer screen to match up the lines. Lastly, have fun.
Would you like to see this?

Or would you like to see this all night?

Points to remember.
- Watch and probe the crowd to see what they are liking and disliking.
- Mix with your ears not your eyes.
- Beat match on the chorus or the break or if you're in transition with another song make it smooth.
- Have fun.
